Great holidays in the church liturgical Constitution (Typicon) are called all twelve great feasts. But besides the Twelve Feasts Orthodox Church celebrates the great five holidays - Protection of the Blessed Virgin, Circumcision of Our Lord and St Memory  Basil the Great, the Nativity of John the, the Day of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, The Beheading of John the Baptist.

These feasts are ranked as great feasts because events and saints, celebrated these days are particularly important for our salvation.
